Position Summary<\/b><\/u>
Reporting to the General Manager, Group Finance (based in London, UK), the Senior Manager, Finance supports First Quantum\u2019s continued access to capital and facilitates effective corporate governance through high quality external reporting and disclosure, in particular the Management Discussion and Analysis quarterly document; and supports the First Quantum Minerals (\u201cFQM\u201d) Group Finance team in ensuring all regulatory reporting requirements are met. Provides leadership and oversight of the corporate accounting function for First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (\u201cFQML\u201d), the parent legal entity of FQM. Manages or participates in ad hoc Group Finance or Corporate Reporting projects or initiatives.
Responsibilities<\/b><\/u>
Quarterly and Annual Reporting of Group Management\u2019s Discussion and Analysis<\/b><\/i>
\u2022 In coordination with the Group Reporting Controller, prepare the Group quarterly and annual Management\u2019s Discussion and Analysis for FQM , with particular responsibility for the front operational and headline section of the document. Liaise with Finance Managers at FQM operations, Senior Management and Director of Investor Relations, to ensure MD&A commentary is reported in a timely manner.
\u2022 Monitor the evolving disclosure practices of industry peers, including best practice disclosure by companies within the Canadian regulatory environment, on a regular basis. Benchmark FQM\u2019s disclosure and provide recommendations to senior management to achieve optimal disclosure and presentation
\u2022 Review and provide comments on other external documents as required.
\u2022 Attend quarterly Audit Committee Meetings
Budgeting and Forecasting for FQML Corporate<\/b><\/i>
\u2022 Lead preparation of the quarterly forecasts and annual budgeting process for corporate costs within FQML (Toronto office), ensuring proper explanation is given for any variances and liaise with Heads of Departments as appropriate
\u2022 Act as a finance business partner to Heads of Departments, providing financial insight and analysis to support budgeting and forecasting,
\u2022 Report and present forecasts and budgets to Group management
\u2022 Liaise with Group Treasury and incorporate interest and finance costs within FQML forecast and budget<\/p>\n
\u2022 Liaise with Group Trading on metal streams and embed appropriately within FQML forecast and budget
\u2022 Forecast appropriate share based payments in accordance with IFRS 2
\u2022 Work with systems team to continually develop Planning systems and processes for corporate costs at FQML
Financial and Management Accounting for FQML Corporate<\/b><\/i>
\u2022 Ensure timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes with a focus on continual improvement and timely reporting to Group Finance
\u2022 Oversee monthly cost centre reporting to Heads of Department together with monthly cost analysis and review
\u2022 Ensure proper accounting for interest and finance costs, metal streams and share based payments reported within FQML corporate
\u2022 Ensure proper reporting on Asset Retirement Obligations in respect of closed sites within FQML corporate
\u2022 Provide technical judgment and oversight on complex or non-standard accounting matters, including evaluating alternative treatments and alignment with Group policy
\u2022 Responsible for the review of all non-routine or complex journal entries for FQML and other journal entries as required.
\u2022 Oversee any changes requested and\/or required for the ERP ensuring compliance with Group policies and procedures and adequate internal controls.
\u2022 Oversee year-end audit requests for FQML to ensure the provision of accurate information to the external Group audit team on a timely basis.
\u2022 Remain abreast of current and emerging IFRS accounting and disclosure requirements to ensure FQML accounting policies reflect current standards and are compliant with FQM\u2019s Group accounting policies.
Controls, Governance and Process Improvement<\/b><\/i>
\u2022 Establish and maintain robust financial control and review frameworks
\u2022 Continuously streamline and optimise finance processes and systems
\u2022 Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements
Leadership and Team Development
\u2022 Lead and develop a team of four direct reports (Supervisor, Corporate Accountants and Accounts Payable and Payroll Analyst)
\u2022 Provide coaching, mentoring and performance management
\u2022 Foster a collaborative team environment
Payroll<\/b><\/i>
\u2022 Manage relationship with outsourced payroll provider and approve and review payroll
\u2022 Review related regulatory reporting
\u2022 Provide guidance as required to the Accounts Payable and Payroll Analyst who liaises with outsourced payroll provider
Projects
\u2022 Lead or contribute to special projects as they arise, liaising with the Group Reporting or Systems teams and\/or Finance Managers at operations as required.
Other
\u2022 Provide oversight of the Toronto office services function.<\/p>\n
Qualifications & Experience<\/b><\/u>
\u2022 Qualified CPA, CA
\u2022 At least 5 years of experience in a financial reporting role or within a management role in practice
\u2022 Experience of managing teams gained from working in a leadership role in a large international, publicly traded corporation or at a senior level within practice.
\u2022 Experience of budgetary control and cost analysis
\u2022 Work experience in the mining industry is an asset.
